The craftsmanship behind every garment created at Dress Your Best.

The Workshop

These photos offer a look inside the Dress Your Best workshop — the place where ideas, fabric, and craftsmanship come together. I purchased this shop in June of 2022, and after years of hard work and dedication, I was proud to pay it off in January of 2026.

Every alteration, custom garment, and sewing lesson begins right here at these tables and machines. This space represents not only the work that goes into each stitch, but also the dream of building a place where creativity, craftsmanship, and community can grow.

Living History

My work in historical sewing is deeply connected to my love of living history and historical reenacting. I first became involved in the reenacting community when I was about 15 years old, and over the past several years, it has grown into one of the most meaningful parts of my life.

Living history is more than simply wearing historical clothing. It is about understanding how people lived, worked, and connected with one another in the past. Through reenacting events across the Southeast, I’ve had the opportunity to study historical clothing, customs, and social traditions in a very hands-on way. These experiences have helped shape the knowledge and authenticity I bring to the garments I create today.

One of my favorite roles within the reenacting community is calling historical dances. Dance calling involves guiding participants through traditional dances from the 19th century, teaching the steps, explaining the social customs behind them, and helping people experience a piece of history in motion. Whether it’s a formal ball or a casual evening dance, it’s incredibly rewarding to watch people step onto the floor—sometimes for the very first time—and leave feeling like they’ve truly traveled back in time.

In addition to dance calling, I also teach historical sewing and clothing interpretation, sharing knowledge about period garments, fabrics, and construction techniques. At many events, I bring my sewing expertise directly to the reenacting community by taking custom garment orders, measurements, and fittings, helping reenactors create clothing that is both historically accurate and properly fitted.

Travel is a big part of this work. Throughout the year, I travel extensively to reenactment events, historical sites, and living history gatherings. Much of this time is spent camping in period-style tents alongside fellow reenactors, fully immersed in the experience of the past. These weekends are filled with education, craftsmanship, music, and friendships that span generations.

What makes this community truly special is the people. The reenacting world is filled with individuals who share a deep appreciation for history and a desire to preserve it. I feel incredibly honored to have been welcomed into this community and to have spent nearly eight years learning, teaching, and growing alongside so many passionate historians and craftsmen.

Living history continues to inspire my work at Dress Your Best, reminding me that every garment carries a story—and that through careful craftsmanship, we can keep those stories alive.
